Listings, Deals, & Segmentation

Explanation of listings (products/services) compared to deals/promotions and how to edit their visibility

What's a Listing?

When you "Add New Listing" you're creating a boilerplate product/service. This is where you'll tell us, generally, what your company offers to prospective customers.

Changes to listings will apply to all deals within that listing, so exercise caution when making updates or publishing/unpublishing. If your product/service is unpublished, so are the deals inside of it.

What's a Deal?

Deals are promotions within listings. Whatever descriptions you add or options you select at the listing level will automatically trickle down to the deals inside of it.

Deals are where you'll add details about the specific discount you want to offer, designate who can use it (this is called "restricting access" or "segmentation"), and provide instructions on how to get it.

Every deal can have different details and segmentation. You're not limited based on what product/service each deal is in, so create deals based on whatever works best for your organization.

Listing and Deal Visibility

Sellers determine who can display their listings and deals. However, they are limited to creating offers for storefronts that have issued an invitation via Builtfirst. Even if a seller is already on Builtfirst, they can't show offers to storefronts that have not explicitly invited them to. (This rule applies to all except Preferred Sellers!)

Shared With: Start with the Listing

Use the Shared With section of listings to determine which storefronts can display your product or service.

Common Scenarios

If the listing can apply to a broad pool of storefronts, you might select "All available storefronts. Consider:

  • Any "new" storefront that sends an invitation to you will automatically gain access to your listing.

    • This is helpful if you partner with many storefronts to offer the same service.

    • This can be troublesome if your listing has language that only applies to specific types of storefronts/customers. You may need to adjust your "shared with" more often.

  • This is the most common selection among sellers.

If the listing applies to a more narrow pool of storefronts, you might choose "Only storefronts selected". Consider:

  • Deals inside of this listing can only be pointed to the storefronts selected in the Shared With section.

  • Shared With must be updated if you receive an invitation from a "new" storefront that wants to display this specific listing or related deals.

  • This is usually selected when sellers have a service that's not typically advertised to the general public.

Additional Segmentation: Optional for Deals

Use Additional Segmentation at the deal level if you have a discount that should only be displayed in particular storefronts - even though the listing is more broad.

This is most commonly used when sellers have a listing shared with "all companies", but then negotiate bespoke deals with individual storefronts. Configuring offers this way allows you to advertise your listing to all, but then customize the specifics (value, terms, etc) of each deal for your storefront partners.

Remember: your segmentation options depend on what you selected at the listing level.
